When there's a will...

Introduction

'...We want every educational institution to harness technology's potential, every teacher and student to use it confidently. Children and young people must have access to high quality technology to enhance their studies – be it at home or school...'

The above direct quote is from Becta's 'Harnessing Technology: Next generation Learning strategy' paper issued in July 2008.

A laudable aim for sure, but as I will discuss over the course of this document; most central government aims are just that – aims. What action there has been is sporadic and, to be honest largely ignored by the commercial sector leaving the public sector to 'go it alone' with technology that is not as straight forward as many people think..

We will also outline what Candelamedia sees as the main issues surrounding the removal of the 'Digital Barrier' and the ways that we can help Local Authorities and Housing associations to utilise off the shelf technologies to digitally enable a large (or indeed all) sector of the community.

There are numerous challenges that inhibit the breaking down of this barrier but we will show you how we can help to do this.
